My father, Emil Neumann (born 1900 near Ufa), was married in April 1928 in Neuendorf, Chortitza, Zaparozhe, Ukraine, USSR, and left for Canada in 1929. This picture was taken around that time. Emil and his wife, Adoline, are standing centre rear - right behind his mother, Elizabeth Neumann (nee Albrecht). His father had passed away in 1905 while on a return trip to Volhynia from Ufa; he was hit with typhoid fever.

Standing: on the left - Emil's sister, Emma and her husband, Greisha Molenko; on the right, Emil's brother, Gottlieb and his wife Liesa (Elizabeth) nee Schultz.
Seated: on the left - Emil's brother, August, and his wife Agatha - nee Böttcher; on the right - his sister Ottilie and her husband Johann Biebrich. Ottilie had a twin sister, Emilie, who died tragically - along with her husband and five of their children, all from typhoid or cholera - during a journey from the Urals to Ukraine in 1921. The two eldest children, Josphine and Heinrich (Henry) Müller, survived into adulthood.
Henry, who had attended his Uncle Emil's wedding in 1928, had a life long dream to once again see his Uncle. In 1989 he and his wife Hermina came to Canada from Kazakhstan for a five month visit with Canadian relatives. After 61 years he once again saw his Uncle - a dream fulfilled. Emil passed away in his 93rd year in 1993. Canadian relatives heard many stories from Henry and Hermina - about their hard life in exile between 1941 and 1953.
